Prior to running any promotion, Bell Reporting reviews the applicable rules of professional conduct and ethics opinions to make sure that our “giveaways” are appropriate. The key issue is always whether our rates are “reasonable,” and in fact, our rates tend to be among the lowest in the Philadelphia metro area. Rules 1.5 and 1.7 of Pennsylvania’s Rules of Professional Conduct, are the only rules on point which seems to potentially address the matter. If the fees for the vendor’s services are “reasonable” and in line with what other similarly situated vendors charge, then the giveaway is absolutely appropriate. Essentially, the vendor - whomever it may be - is simply willing to give some of its profit back to the client as a way of cultivating goodwill.
